Oddities: a bit of a weird category
this

Those places that are either out of area or do good stand up food to go.
I suppose basically service stations that are independant and not selling
slime.

| Mr & Mrs Cafeometer | LeTruck
Stop Junction 39 A84 Normandy (out of area) | 7 | A departure and
a bit of an indulgence here but they do chips so the're in. Oddly French
cuisine seems to to have failed to keep pace with the UK. Meals are
often now better in blighty, but Les service stations and truckers cafes
(routiers)take no prisoners. One menu available 4 courses including
snails and steak and chips All the wine and cider you could drink for
11 Euros. No english spoken and little French by us, still friendly,
reasonably priced and local food. Puddings let the side down.
| Mr & Mrs Cafeometer | Ockham Common Tea
Shed Near Rhs Wisley, Kent | 8 | A
surprise win and the reason this category exists at all. Just off the
M25 in a glade of Douglas Fir. Does excellent bacon rolls. Friendly
staff, good prices and you can walk up through the woods to the semaphore
tower over original heathland. Feels very remote, even though it is
surrounded by motorways, recommended.
| | Mr & Mrs Cafeometer | The Devil's Bridge
cabin A65 Kirkby Lonsdale | 8 | A
beautiful riverside location despite being just off a a main road.
No tables or chairs but excellent bacon rolls etc at good prices.
Popular with bikers and way better than any services on the M6, recommended. |
