  Glossary of terms for Internet email and MSN
Browser
    the piece of software you use to view webpages it is the browser on
    your computer that receives the pages of HTMl form the internet and "decodes"
    then into text images video and sound. Unfortunately at the moment (2007)
    not all browsers decode pages in the same way. The two most popular at the
    moment are Internet Explorer and firefox. Firefox is the more "standard compliant"
    of the two in that it decodes HTML in the way the W3C (people behind the
    internet) intended more often.
DNS server
    This turns the ip addresses on which the internet runs into the domain
    names which you type into a browser. Your domain name server is usually provided
    by your ISP but you can run your own if you want.
 Email client
    This is a piece of software that allow you to send and receive emails.
    To set up an email client you need an account on an email server and you
    need to to know the POP and SMTP settings on it. you also need port 25 on
    your
    firewall open.
    The most popular email client is Microsoft Outlook express but the opensource
    Thunderbird is popular and easy to use.
